Title

PROCLAMATION DESIGNATING THE MONTH OF OCTOBER AS NATIONAL COMMUNITY PLANNING MONTH

Body

Background:

October is National Community Planning Month. The City of Delray Beach has a long history of undertaking community planning processes to determine its vision and aid in neighborhood revitalization. In the past two years, the Historic Preservation Division has secured $200,000 in grant funding for the study of historic assets and corridors, to memorialize historic records in digital format, and to document the Historic Delray Beach Cemetery.  The Development Services Department is also home to several programs to contribute to the future of the planning profession. The department actively participates in Atlantic High School programs teaching students about the value of community planning. Since 2010, the department has also worked directly with students and young professionals through the Department’s Internship program, and more recently, the through the Planner-in-Training program, to facilitate professional development in the field.
