Accept the Solid Waste Authority Blighted Property Grant award and authorize the Delray Beach Community Redevelopment Agency Board (CRA) Chair to execute an Interlocal Grant Agreement by and between Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County and the CRA in an amount not to exceed $108,000.

Background:
On September 19, 2022, Delray Beach Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) staff submitted a grant application in response to the Solid Waste Authority (SWA) of Palm Beach County’s Blighted and Distressed Property Clean-up and Beautification Grant Application. The CRA requested $100,000 for the demolition of 700 West Atlantic Avenue (700 Block) in order to make way for the future construction of a mixed-use development consisting of commercial space and workforce/affordable housing units.
At the October 25, 2022 Palm Beach County Board of Commissioners Meeting, the funding request was approved for the full amount ($108,000). The CRA is prepared to accept the grant by signing an Interlocal Grant with the Palm Beach County Solid Waste Authority and with the expressed approval of the CRA board.
The SWA grant funds help advance the CRA mission of eliminating slum and blight. Blight prevention and beautification through demolition improves the appearance of neighborhoods within the CRA District, while making way for future development in the area, particularly in the West Atlantic Neighborhoods.
