Recommended Action:

Recommendation

Motion to declare the month of June as LGBTQ Pride Month.

Body

Background:

LGBTQ people are our family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers who contribute meaningfully to our community and continue to contribute to the widespread academic, economic, artistic, and social spheres within and around our greater community. The month of June was designated Pride Month to commemorate the Stonewall Riots which occurred fifty years ago in June of 1969 and are recognized as the catalyst of the LGBTQ rights movement. The City of Delray Beach remains committed to protecting the civil rights of LGBTQ communities as the purpose proves vital in our efforts to advance a more open and just society.
