Title

ACCEPTANCE OF SOLID WASTE AUTHORITY BLIGHTED PROPERTY GRANT

Body

Recommended Action:

Recommendation

Accept the Solid Waste Authority Blighted Property Grant award and authorize the Delray Beach Community Redevelopment Agency Board (CRA) Chair to execute an Interlocal Grant Agreement by and between Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County and the CRA in an amount not to exceed $52,800.

Body

Background:

On September 15, 2020, Delray Beach Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) staff submitted a grant application in response to the Solid Waste Authority (SWA) of Palm Beach County’s Blighted and Distressed Property Clean-up and Beautification Grant Application.

The CRA requested $52,800 to implement the following blight prevention and beautification projects:

A.                     Landscaping/Clearing/Disposal at 46 SW 9th Avenue - Reverend Thomas Park

B.                     Landscaping/Hardscaping at 20 - 22 North Swinton Avenue - CRA Office Building and Wellbrock Home

At the October 14, 2020 Palm Beach County Board of Commissioners Meeting, the funding request was approved for the full amount ($52,800).  The CRA is prepared to accept the grant by signing an Interlocal Grant with the Palm Beach County Solid Waste Authority and with the expressed approval of the CRA board.

The SWA grant funds will help the CRA advance its mission of eliminating slum and blight by  improving the appearance of neighborhoods within the CRA District, including the West Atlantic Neighborhoods, through ongoing illegal dumping mitigation and blight prevention activities and beautification of and near CRA-owned properties.
